Why should a child learn music? Ask a reading teacher who needs children to understand sequencing or a science teacher who is teaching about sound. Ask a math teacher who understands musical time signatures or a dance instructor who needs students to understand how to count beats. Music can be used to teach math, language and listening skills, and develop and enhance cognitive skills in a fun and pleasurable way. Additionally, music is calming and helps us - and children - express our thoughts and emotions. It is a major form of communication.
Music also teaches spatial reasoning skills. This link is significant since spatial reasoning skills are part of the abstract reasoning skills that the brain uses to perform common, everyday activities such as walking, and complex functions, such as solving problems in mathematics and engineering.
Music is universally loved by children. Language, cultural and developmental barriers come tumbling down when children listen to sounds, sing songs, discover rhythms and patterns in nature, make instruments and listen to music.
Music is an important part of everyday life. Music is truly a universal language that can be used to enrich the lives of all students.
And I have the delightful privilege of leading your children on this musical adventure. I have 22 years experience working in the child care setting teaching musical activities. I comply with all state regulations and willingly cooperate with the staff.
The children will be exposed to musical concepts as well as introduction to orchestral instruments. Children will learn the names and sounds of instruments and how they make the sound. Each child will have hands-on experience to play various musical instruments in group activities and individually. We learn through music and movement, listening games, singing, books, visual aids, and many activities.
I'm looking forward to teaching your child. I'm sure we will have a great year.
